Canberra Montessori Bulletin Term 1 Week 9 2011

Message from the Principal ...

Dear CMS families,

On Friday April 15th, the CMS staff will be enjoying breakfast together before the school day. It’s a tradition we started last year and a good way to celebrate our accomplishments from Term 1. Our school was blessed with a few challenges this first term and I believe it is a testament to the teamwork and dedication of our teachers, that through it all, the children continued to learn and thrive.

A fond memory from Term 1 was the Cotter Dam trip for Extended Day students. The thrill of boarding a bus and heading off to the great unknown was exhilarating for the young ones and marked a key moment in the development of their confidence and independence. I also enjoyed meeting families at our Meet and Greet evenings at Holder and Red Hill. In addition, for those who attended the Disco last Friday, (which seemed to be everyone!) I am sure that you were inspired, as I was, by the togetherness of our community and the joy that the children gain from being at a place they love so much.

Behind the scenes there were plenty of activities to keep us busy. Our childcare licenses in both Red Hill and Holder were renewed in March. It is a process which involves a great deal of detail and a hard look at the policies and procedures that our school must have in place to remain compliant. In Education, this continues to be a time of change in Australia with the implementation of the National Curriculum in 2012, the new National Quality Standards in Childcare and the introduction of the Teacher Quality Institute which will involve new National Quality Standards for teachers.

At the office, Judy, Susan and I have been picking up the slack over the past couple of weeks and I am delighted to announce that Tonia Lewis, has accepted the, once again vacant, position as our Administrative Assistant. We are looking forward to Tonia’s presence at the front desk.

My last observation involves the ever expanding number of clubs offered at the school. I get excited just looking at the list, and I know the children are looking forward to some of the activities. In addition to teachers giving up their time afterschool to get involved, I noticed that a few parents have stepped in as well which is great to see.

Well the Rice’s are off to New Zealand over the Term 1 school break, and I hope that your family is also looking forward to a couple of relaxing weeks together. We will see you all in term 2.

Peace,

Jack Rice

MyWay - Implications For Students For Day 1, T2.

From 11 April 2011, ACTION’s old magnetic ticketing system will no longer be in use. While students who show a valid school term ticket to the bus driver will be able to travel for the remainder of Term 1, other students will need to pay for their travel using cash or a MyWay card.

MyWay cards for students cannot be purchased from newsagents. School student applications can only be done online or through a participating school. As applications for student MyWay cards can take several days to process it is important that parents or students order their cards now.
