From the Principal…
Dear CMS families:
What a fortnight it has been. I enjoyed meeting families at our Meet and Greet and my family was very touched by the attendance and enthusiasm at the picnic last Friday. I am looking forward to our first parent evening of the year on Wednesday February 24th. Our teachers are preparing their presentations and I hope that you will be able to join us and support their efforts. Currently I am assembling a fun multiple choice test for the evening, just whetting our appetite for trivia night!
I’d like to thank parents for supporting our efforts with our new attendance system. By taking attendance in the classrooms at 9 a.m. and cross checking those lists with your messages on the answering machine, the office is able to account for all of the children every morning. The admittance slips are not meant to be a punishment they are simply a way for us to close the loop with students that have arrived past 9:00 a.m. and are otherwise marked absent on the attendance.
As a newcomer to Australia one of the curious traditions that has me intrigued is “morning tea” – on Thursday February 25th I will experience it first hand with our new parents morning tea event, I am looking forward to meeting our new families and answering questions about the school and Montessori education.
I have also been asked to speak in advance of the Board Meeting on March16th. My topic will be “Enjoying the Journey”, I hope to be able to share with you memories from my own Montessori Journey and impart some thoughts on how lucky we are to share our lives with children.
Peace
Jack Rice

If
If I had my child to raise all over again,
I’d build self esteem first and the house later.
I’d finger paint more and point the finger less.
I would do less correcting and more connecting.
I’d take my eyes off my watch and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less and know to care more.
I’d take more hikes and fly more kites.
I’d stop playing serious and seriously play.
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.
I’d do more hugging and less tugging.
I’d see the oak tree in the acorn more often.
I would be firm less often and affirm much more.
I’d model less about the love of power and more about the power of love.

HATS!
Please remember to provide your child with a suitable sunhat during Terms 1 & 4.
“Suitable” hats are either broad-brimmed or legionnaire style (flap at back). The brim or front flap should be at least 8-10cm wide. If your child doesn’t have a suitable hat they will need to spend outdoor time in a designated shade area. Baseball caps or beanies are not “suitable”.
